Scientists: Popular Drug Helps Prevent COVID-19

Taking aspirin regularly can prevent coronavirus infection, according to a new study. Writes about it New York Post.

Researchers from Israel found that those who regularly took low doses of aspirin were 29% less likely to contract the coronavirus.

The study looked at data from 10 Israelis who were tested for COVID-000 between February 19 and June 1.

The researchers compared the results of patients who regularly take low-dose aspirin for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease with patients who do not take the drug.

In addition to being less likely to contract the virus, aspirin can help shorten the duration of illness.

Aspirin users who contracted the virus had a shorter duration of illness than usual and rarely had long-term symptoms.

Professor Eli Magen of Barzilai Medical Center said it could be due to the drug's anti-inflammatory properties.

She said more research is needed to investigate the benefits of aspirin in fighting the virus.

“This observation of a possible beneficial effect of low-dose aspirin on COVID-19 infection is preliminary but appears very promising,” she concluded.
