Scientists explain why there are a lot of sharks in California bays

In the bays of California, the shark population has increased due to the fact that the water in the bay is warmer and more food than in the Pacific Ocean. Reports about it LA Weekly.

"Most people don't realize that Los Angeles waters are home to the largest species of fish, white sharks," said Chris Lowe, professor of marine biology at Cal State Long Beach, Los Angeles Magazine.

Most newborn sharks are looking for warm waters and therefore migrate from the waters of the Pacific Ocean to the small bays of California.

As a rule, newborn sharks live in Californian bays from May to October, and then, when the water begins to cool, they move towards the equator. In recent years, the water temperature remains comfortable, so the sharks stay here for the winter, spring and summer.

Scientists have noticed this tendency since 2014. Newborn sharks remained to spend the winter in the waters of California, and the next spring a new flock came from the Pacific Ocean, which actually doubled the number of fish in the area.

Marine biologists recommend resting where there is a large crowd of people, as predators attack mainly lonely swimmers.
