Scientists explain why men die more often from coronavirus than women

Men and women have the same chance of contracting coronavirus, but mortality due to COVID-19 is lower among women than among men, reports “Voice of America».

Scientists believe that this is due to the fact that women better monitor their health and less often men smoke cigarettes. Lewis Ostrosky-Zeichner, an infectious disease specialist at McCagavern School of Medicine at the University of Texas, says the history of SARS and MERS outbreaks confirms that men were more likely to die in these cases.

This is affected by the difference between the two sexes in overall health: according to the Lancet magazine, as of 2017, 2776 men and 1534 women per 100 of the world's population suffered from cardiovascular diseases. Women were also less likely to suffer from respiratory illnesses and strokes.
