Scientists have found a possible cause of death due to electronic cigarettes: now vapes want to ban in the US
Researchers suggest that we are dealing with a new form of lipoid pneumonia.
In the United States, the sixth person has died from a mysterious lung disease caused by vaping.
The deaths of six people in the USA caused by smoking electronic cigarettes may be due to the presence of macrophages in their lungs. These are cells that help protect the human immune system by capturing and digesting dangerous viruses and bacteria.
This is stated in a study by the New England Journal of Medicine. TSN.
Scientists from the University of Utah, having studied all six cases of death due to vaping, found a large number of lipid macrophages or macrophages containing fatty particles in the lungs of the deceased. Macrophages loaded with lipids are very unusual and have an expressive appearance, said pulmonologist and lead author of the study Scott Aberegg.

The presence of lipid-loaded macrophages in human lungs is also used to diagnose lipoid pneumonia, a rare type of pneumonia caused by inhalation of these fatty particles. Lipoid pneumonia is characterized by symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, and chest pain, as reported by people who visited the hospital with pulmonary diseases associated with vaping.
Scott Aberegg says lipoid pneumonia is usually the result of accidental inhalation of fluid into the lungs, usually oil-based laxatives. He suggested that in the case of vaping, we are dealing with a new form of lipoid pneumonia.
Such a diagnosis, Aberegg says, “would be consistent with the dominant theory” shared by most medical professionals—that vaping lung disease is linked to inhalation of vitamin E acetate (a substance used by black-market dealers to produce vaping oils).
Against the backdrop of a continuing series of diseases among smokers in the United States, President Donald Trump’s administration has promised to ban all electronic cigarettes with additives and flavors, including popular blends with menthol or fruit flavors. They are especially popular with American students, who are one of the largest groups of vape consumers.
Trump's decision could be influenced by his wife, writes Meduza.
"The Trump administration says that we intend to clear the market of flavored electronic cigarettes in order to reverse the deeply worrying epidemic of youth use," says in a September 11 report from the head of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar. Even such popular flavors as mint and menthol will be banned. An exception will be made only for tobacco mixtures.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will publish the details of the plan for regulating the vape market and their licensing under the new rules in the near future, the statement said. The restrictions will affect most of the market: for example, Juul, the largest US manufacturer of electronic cigarettes, flavored mixtures account for 85% of sales, пишет The New York Times.

The decision to ban flavored vapes could be influenced by the wife of President Melania Trump, who attended his recent meeting with Hazard and FDA President Ned Sharpless, the newspaper said. “She has a son,” NYT quotes Trump about their teenage son, Barron Trump. “She is very worried about all this.”
Melania Trump herself managed to devote a whole series of tweets to the problem. “The data indicate a high level of consumption of flavored electronic cigarettes among our youth. As parents, we are responsible for the dangers associated with vaping. Our administration supports the removal of flavored electronic cigarettes from stores until they are approved by the FDA, ”her latest report said.

The decision of the Trump administration was supported even by consumers of electronic cigarettes, notes Reuters, interviewed by New York vapers. We did not object to the tough measures in Juul: “We fully agree with the need for decisive measures regarding flavored products throughout this category,” a company representative told NYT.
“We cannot let people get sick. And we cannot allow this to affect our children, ”the newspaper quotes Trump himself.
