Uber introduces a taxi subscription. What does it mean and how does it work

Fluctuating travel costs are frustrating—especially when you're trying to stick to a budget. That's why Uber launched a subscription plan last week, promising riders fixed prices for an unlimited number of rides for a month.

The subscription price starts at $ 14,99 per month, and its owners may not worry about price hikes during travel demand or cost differences due to traffic or time of day.

Uber's plan does not provide for a certain cost per trip, but The Verge publication reports that fixed passenger rates will be reduced to 15%.

The pilot project will be launched in five cities - Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami and Orlando. For commuters in Los Angeles, the plan will cost $24,99 per month, according to The Verge. Subscribers in four other cities will pay $14,99 per month.

The cost of a subscription plan is an upfront fee for registering users in the program. Passengers pay extra for each individual trip.

After you register, the service will automatically renew your subscription at the end of the month, but you can cancel it at any time.

Uber announced the subscription service after arch-rival Lyft launched its subscription plan nationwide. Subscribers to a competing company's plan pay $299 per month. For that money, they get 30 “free” trips—often a trip that costs $15 or less.

The base price of Uber $ 14,99 sounds a lot less daunting than Lyft’s $ 299, but it all depends on the fixed cost of the Uber trip and how often you will use this service. For example, if you drive $ 30 per month with Uber's Ride Pass, you pay $ 300 dollars plus initial $ 14,99 or $ 24,99, which means you spend more with Uber than with Lyft.

You should figure out which subscription plan is more convenient for you and help save more money.
