As the director of production Uber Jeff Holden, the contract provides for the development of software to regulate flying taxi routes.
“We are inviting the cooperation of [aviation] regulators and starting negotiations at a very early stage so that everyone involved can understand our plans,” Holden said.
Uber plans to use both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles as taxis that can be called using a smartphone, similar to the taxi order service that exists now.
Flight tests of the taxi service are scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in the 2020 year, and the launch of the project is scheduled for the 2023 year.
For a new service Uber does not plan to create its own planes or helicopters, and intends to use aircraft of leading world manufacturers, including Aurora Flight Sciences, Embraer, Mooney, Bell Helicopter and Pipistrel Aircraft.

“Technically this is possible, but this does not mean that it is feasible in terms of opening airspace. There are questions about how such vehicles will be tracked, insured and registered,” says University of Birmingham professor David Dunn.
He cited the airline’s plans as an example. Pan Amwhich in 1960 promised to deliver passengers to the moon.
«Uber positions itself as a brand looking to the future. This may be more of a marketing ploy than an actual product,” says Dunn.
