College has long been considered a guaranteed path to success. But with the cost of education rising and fewer white-collar jobs available, young professionals are looking elsewhere. More and more Gen Zers are turning to blue-collar jobs as a way to earn six figures without racking up student debt. Still, some degrees actually pay off handsomely over time.
A new report from Class Central found that Harvard University boasts the most billionaires, with 144 people. The average wealth of Harvard billionaire alumni is $9,65 billion, with its richest alumnus, Mark Zuckerberg, topping the list with $236 billion. True, the Meta CEO dropped out of college in his sophomore year to focus on building Facebook into the social media empire it is today. But Zuckerberg couldn’t have done it without the four co-founders he met at Harvard.

It is one of the most expensive universities in America: tuition without financial aid can cost students $82 per year, which is more than $000 for a four-year course.
However, even those who don't become billionaires after Harvard benefit from their investment—the average salary of a graduate ten years after graduating from the world-famous college is $95. By comparison, the average salary of an employee in the U.S. with ten years of work experience is estimated at about $114.
But billionaires aren't just born in the Ivy League: public schools like the University of California also make the top 10. Another of the state's elite colleges is the University of Southern California, where George Lucas discovered his talent for filmmaking.
"This study highlights the strong link between prestigious educational institutions and wealth creation," said Class Central founder and CEO Dhaval Shah in the study.
While these universities don't guarantee ten-figure fortunes, they do bring together the brightest minds (and deepest pockets) from around the world.
Having knowledgeable mentors, resources, insider information and exclusive connections certainly increases the likelihood of brilliant financial success.
Example: Sergey Brin and Larry Page met at Stanford University and went on to found Google, which has a market cap of $2 trillion. Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, and Max Levchin met at the University of Pennsylvania and founded PayPal, which has a market cap of $89 billion.
