USCIS Urges U.S. Residents to Report Immigrants

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced an initiative called "Protecting America Together." Essentially, the agency is creating a channel through which anyone can report a foreign national (a neighbor, colleague, or acquaintance) if they believe they are violating immigration rules, committing crimes, or posing a threat, according to official USCIS website.

The "Secure America Together" initiative is formally presented as a fight against fraud and threats to national security. In practice, it's a classic mechanism for collecting public reports on migrants.

"U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) prioritizes the safety and security of the American people," the website states. "We encourage the public to report any suspected fraud, abuse, or activity that threatens or undermines the United States, its government, citizens, or institutions. This includes immigration fraud, criminal activity, advocacy of violence or terrorism, and association with individuals or groups that actively seek to undermine national security or public safety."

USCIS encourages individuals to report any aliens who may be potentially involved in the following activities.

Immigration fraud, including:

• Forgery of documents (use of false or altered documents)
• Identity theft (using someone else's identity)
• Marriage fraud (entering into a fictitious marriage to obtain immigration benefits)
• Visa fraud (lying on visa applications)
• Asylum fraud (false claims to obtain asylum)
• Employment fraud (misrepresentation of job offers or employment)
• Fraud and Abuse in the H-1B (Temporary Specialty Worker) Visa Program
• Fraud and Abuse in the H-2B (Temporary Non-Agricultural Worker) Visa Program
• Fraud and Abuse in the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Program

Other illegal actions:

• Falsely claiming U.S. citizenship, including registering or voting in a federal election
• Supporting terrorist ideologies or providing material support to terrorist organizations
• Calls for the violent overthrow of the US government
• Expression of hatred towards American values
• Supporting or participating in efforts to harm, undermine, or threaten the United States, its government, citizens, or institutions
• Collaboration with persons or groups seeking to undermine national security or public safety
• Expressing anti-Americanism through actions (rather than through opinions or protected free speech), such as committing violence or supporting groups that promote violence or terrorism
• Engaging in activities that violate the principles of the Constitution or demonstrate disloyalty to the United States

Essentially, the agency is creating a channel through which anyone can send a tip on a foreigner (a neighbor, colleague, or acquaintance) if they believe that they are violating immigration rules, committing crimes, or posing a threat.

This initiative fits well with the overall pattern of tightening immigration policy during the second Trump administration. The White House made mass deportations and tough enforcement a top priority. Congress allocated unprecedented funding—tens of billions of dollars—to expand Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), build new detention centers, and increase the number of agents.
