Chinese coronavirus was discovered on a cruise ship passenger: 3500 people were quarantined
Princess Cruises cruise ship was quarantined off the coast of Japan after a Chinese coronavirus was discovered on one of the passengers. 3500 passengers were quarantined. Writes about it USA Today.
A guest from Hong Kong left Diamond Princess liner on January 25, when the ship docked in Hong Kong to visit a local hospital where he was diagnosed with coronavirus.
“While on the ship, he did not visit the ship's medical center to report any symptoms or illness,” the company said in a statement. “The hospital said he is in stable condition and the family members traveling with him are not showing any symptoms.”
On a January 14 cruise, the liner departed January 20 from Yokohama, Japan, and was scheduled to return on Tuesday, February 4. Local health officials check 2666 guests and 1045 crew on board for symptoms.
A Princess Cruises statement said the ship was detained for 24 hours to allow medical teams to do their job.
As of February 4, an outbreak of coronavirus infected more than 20 people and killed more than 000, most of them in China.
The U.S. Department of State raised its travel recommendations to China to level 4, recommending that Americans not go there. This change followed the statement by the World Health Organization on the health emergency caused by coronavirus.
