'We have the complete picture': Kiev began interrogating Ukrainians who received Russian passports

Residents of Donbass began to receive Russian passports in mid-July. According to the chief military prosecutor of Ukraine, the authorities find out who received citizenship and interrogate its owners.

The Ukrainian authorities were able to identify the Ukrainians, who received Russian passports. Some of them were summoned for interrogation, Chief Military Prosecutor Anatoly Matios said in an interview with Radio NV, writes RBC.

“We have the full picture, we are now - in the process of investigation - everyone who obtained such citizenship is established, as in the part of Donetsk and Lugansk regions - these are big numbers,” he said.

According to Matios, citizens were interrogated when they crossed the entry / exit checkpoints (KPVV) in the Donbas. He did not specify how many people were interrogated.

In late April, Russian President Vladimir Putin simplified the issuance of Russian passports to residents of the self-proclaimed DNR and LNR, the decision was explained by humanitarian objectives, the Ukrainian authorities refused to recognize these documents.

In July, Russia extended the decree on passports to all residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine - the self-proclaimed republics occupy only a part of their territory. Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky ordered the Foreign Ministry to develop a mechanism for the provision of citizenship for ethnic Ukrainians from friendly countries to Kiev.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister called the granting of citizenship a “passport banditry” and promised to respond to the decision of the Russian authorities. According to the minister, Kiev is preparing to increase sanctions and political pressure, and the proposed restrictions may affect people and companies that form the "basis of the Kremlin regime."

This was stated in a statement by the US State Department. It is noted that with such provocative actions, Russia is increasing its onslaught on Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
• European Union Ambassadors discuss the issue of issuing Russian passports citizens of Ukraine. “They instructed the European Commission to study the possibility of banning entry to the EU for citizens with these passports,” said Radio Liberty correspondent in Brussels, Ricard Josvyak.
• 17 July President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree, according to which not only residents of the so-called DNR and LC, but also all who lived in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine will be able to obtain Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure.
