Google Maps has a feature to help you avoid speeding tickets: how it works

Apple Maps has undoubtedly gotten better in recent years. But it cannot be denied that Google Maps remains the best mapping application available today. This, of course, shouldn't come as much of a surprise given that Google Maps was released back in February 2005, that is, seven years before Apple Maps debuted.

Over the past 16+ years, Google has managed to incorporate many interesting features into its mapping software.

Google Maps Speed ​​Check Tracking Function

Few things in life are more burdensome than a speeding ticket. Of course, you can completely avoid speeding tickets simply by obeying the speed limit. However, the reality is that everyone tends to increase their speed, especially when the traffic is not very busy, and everyone else is traveling at a speed of 10-20 km per hour above the established norm.

You may not know that Google Maps has a feature that alerts you when a speed check appears along your route. A speed check is an area next to a highway where police officers sit in a prominent position and monitor how fast people are driving.

However, Google Maps has a feature that alerts users to the location of some of these speed traps. To test this feature, just open Google Maps and enter your destination. If there are speed traps along the route, you will see a blue megaphone icon.

Also, once you start your ride, you can choose to have Google Maps send you an audio alert when you approach a speed checkpoint. To do this, simply launch navigation, click on any warning icon on the screen, and you will see a speaker icon on which you can disable or enable these notifications.

This feature has been available on Android for quite some time. It only appeared on the iPhone in 2019.

Measure the distance between two points

This is a great feature of Google Maps that allows you to quickly determine how far one place is from another. To use this feature, put a pin in place on Google Maps. Now click on the pin once and the "Measure Distance" option should appear on the screen. Select this item. Now you can select a different location by simply dragging the cursor.

Take a look inside buildings

This is a fun Google Maps feature that's great for well-known buildings and landmarks. For example, enter "Museum of the City of New York" into Google Maps. Then select the Photos tab. You will then be able to see views of the street as well as a 360 degree view from inside the building itself.
