Thousands of Americans attended the November 2016 protest organized by a group of Russians using a social network. Facebook.

The demonstration in New York, which took place a few days after the presidential election, was the largest and most successful attempt by Russian groups known today to use social networking platforms to influence American politics, writes The Hill.

16 Thousands of Users Facebook announced that they plan to attend a protest against Donald Trump 12 on November 2016, organized by a group in Facebook called BlackMattersUS. This community is controlled by Russians who sought to capitalize on racial tensions in the United States. 61 000 users shared information about the event on their pages on the social network.

Union Square in Manhattan actually gathered from 5 000 to 10 000 protesters. Then they went with a march to Trump Tower.

Group BlackMattersUS took advantage of outrage among the American left after Trump won the November 8 election to step up support for her event. The group’s protest was the fourth rally after the election against Trump in New York and one of many across the country.

“Join us on the streets! Let's stop Trump and his plans. Fragmentation - the reason we made this failure. We must unite, despite our differences, to stop the hatred that rules our country,” the event page reads. Facebook.

While the US is focusing on the media efforts of Russia on the eve of the elections, the rally Blackmattersthree days after Trump’s victory shows that after the elections, Russians continued to use social networks to influence Americans.

According to RBC, Group Blackmatters associated with the Russian "factory trolls" in St. Petersburg.

According to FacebookThe “factory” bought 3000 political advertising objects from this social network, and also created 470 accounts through which Russians allegedly tried to influence the sympathies of the Americans in the elections in 2016.

Facebook deleted these 470 accounts. An account has also been removed. Blackmatters, although Facebook did not officially name the reason for the removal of this group. Twitter also deleted account Blackmatterswithout specifying the reasons for this action.
