Twitter moved to the new limit when counting characters in tweets
Twitter microblogging network removed restrictionsoverlaid on the length of one message, using any media applications, including photos, videos, animated GIF-files, polls and quoting other tweets.
In addition, the limit in 140 characters will no longer include user names that begin with an @ sign, so that you do not have to save space for text when you contact a group of users directly. This feature will be enabled later.
In addition, the @ sign will no longer be used at the beginning of a tweet. There is no need for this, since all new messages that start with the account name will be shown to all subscribers of the user.
With the evolution of the service that started in 2006, Twitter users increasingly complained about the inconvenience of the limit, which forces them to use URL shortenings through third-party resources, such as bit.ly or goo.gl.
In addition, a severe restriction has led to the emergence of services such as OneShot, which allow you to publish longer messages as images rather than text.
Last summer, Twitter lifted its limit on the size of private messages. Users now have the opportunity to exchange as long messages as they like with each other, unless, of course, they go beyond the new limit of 10 thousand characters.
Experts believe that Twitter has gone for changes in the rules of use in order to attract new users, whose growth has slowed recently.
Twitter's previous full idea removing restrictions on 140 characters on the message (the new ceiling was planned to be installed at around 10 thousands of characters) was not approved. The company refused to criticize potential innovations by many users.
In February, Twitter launched a new feature that allows users to customize the tape based on their personal interests, and tweets appear in order of priority.
