Tourists have limited access to the Statue of Liberty and the Immigration Museum

The US National Park Service decided to close access to the Statue of Liberty and the Immigration Museum for tourist groups to solve the problem of overcrowding. Rtvi.

The ban comes into effect on May 16, but certain exceptions will apply.

So, in the colder months of the year (from November to March) and during periods of adverse weather conditions, guides can use one of the rooms on the first floor of the museum to briefly tell about the sights.

Officials argue that such an approach is necessary because of the increased number of tours in this area over the past decade. According to service representative Jerry Willis, this greatly spoiled the impressions of tourists.

He added that most of the guides were professionals, but some of them carried out loud excursions or quarreled with others for a better place for their group.

The newspaper notes that the population of New York for ten years has grown to 8,4 million people, and tourism has reached a record high. In 2018, 65,2 million people visited the city. About 4,5 million people visit the Immigration Museum annually. As noted in the Statue Cruises ferry, in 2018 they serviced about 250 thousands of passengers, which is six times more than a decade ago.
