15 tourist months could not fly away from the United States due to panic attacks

A Briton on 15 months was stuck in the US after being banned from returning home because of daily panic attacks.

25-year-old Ryan Winn flew to the States in the summer for three weeks, but stayed there for another 15 months, on the verge of bankruptcy.

He spent almost 12 000 pounds sterling ($ 15 700), and his medical bill is 11 500 pounds sterling ($ 15 000).

A former WH Smith sales assistant said: “I was afraid I might die if I got on the plane. I started having panic attacks from large groups of people. ”

Ryan flew to Havertown, Pennsylvania, 15 June 2017, to see friends.

“Everything went well and I had a wonderful summer vacation,” he recalled.

But on June 30 he went to the Science Museum of the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia with the daughter of his friend Samantha, who is 17 years old.

Because of the crowd of tourists, Ryan lost sight of Samantha. Shock provoked a terrible panic attack - the first time in his life.

"All I could think was, 'If I don't find his daughter, my friend will kill me.' I struggled to breathe. My heart was beating 168 beats per minute,” Ryan Winn recalls.

Healthy adults have a normal heart rate from 60 to 100.

“After six hours in hospital, I was discharged, but I was unable to fly. “I was fine for a couple of days, but then I had a similar panic attack and ended up in the ER again,” Ryan recalls. “I was discharged again and prescribed Valium and Ritalin, but 24 hours later I was back in the hospital again.”

The attacks continued, and Ryan, who could not go out, was still not feeling well enough for the 8-hour flight.

He was already thinking about how to swim to the UK, but doctors advised not to.

“If it weren’t for my friend Abby, I wouldn’t have survived. I lived with her in Pittsburgh for free, and she took care of me,” Ryan says. — I had to use most of my savings. I had £12 and now it's almost all gone."

Since then, Ryan has lost his job at WH Smith and is approaching bankruptcy.
