Trump has created a White House position for Musk: a new department will be created for him
President-elect Donald Trump said on November 12 that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the Department of Government Efficiency. This will happen in January, when Trump officially becomes the head of state for the second time, reports CNBC.
Trump wrote in the post that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, "may be the Manhattan Project of our time." He said the newly created agency would "pave the way" for his next administration to "dismantle government bureaucracy, cut unnecessary regulations and wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies."
Trump did not specify where the cuts would take place or when the department would be formed. Congress did not create or fund such an office. Trump said the efficiency group’s work “will be completed by July 4, 2026.”

Musk's involvement in the proposed team formation had previously been promised by Trump and supported by Musk himself, who has reportedly contributed about $200 million to support Trump's 2024 re-election campaign. Musk, who is the chief executive of defense contractor SpaceX, has reportedly been at Trump's Mar-a-Lago, Florida, residence since election night.
Ramaswamy, who ran against Trump in the Republican primary, is a co-founder of the investment firm Strive Asset Management. He opposes the broad application of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles in corporate practices.
