Trump talks about his conversations with Putin and plans to end the war in Ukraine

President Trump said he spoke by phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to try to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, he said. New York Post In an exclusive interview on board Air Force One on February 7.

"I'd rather not say," Trump said when asked how many times they had spoken.

But the US president believes that Putin is "genuinely worried" about the deaths on the battlefield.

"He wants people to stop dying," the White House chief said.

Trump says the three-year war "would never have happened" if he were president in 2022.

“I have always had a good relationship with Putin,” he noted, emphasizing that his predecessor had a bad relationship with the Russian president.

"Biden was a disgrace to our country. A complete disgrace," Trump concluded.

He said he had a specific plan to end the war.

"I hope it will be quick. Every day people are dying. This war is terrible for Ukraine. I want to end this damn thing."

Addressing National Security Adviser Mike Walz, who was with him in his office aboard Air Force One on the evening of February 7, Trump said: “Let’s have these meetings. They want to meet. Every day, people are dying. Young, beautiful soldiers are dying. Young men like my sons. On both sides. All over the battlefield.”

Vice President Vance will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference February 14-16.

Trump has said he wants to negotiate a $500 million deal with Zelensky for access to rare earth metals and gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees as part of a possible peace deal.

Regarding Iran, Trump said: "I would like to make a deal with Iran on issues other than nuclear programs. I would prefer that to bombing them... They don't want to die. Nobody wants to die."

"If we had made a deal, Israel wouldn't have bombed them," Trump added.

However, he declined to disclose details of possible talks with Iran: “In some ways, I don’t like telling you what I’m going to tell them.”

"I can tell them what I have to tell them, and I hope they decide not to do what they're going to do. And I think they'll be really pleased."

"I'll tell them I'll make a deal."

Asked what he would offer Iran in response, Trump stressed: "I can't say because it's too harsh. But I won't bomb them."
