Trump met with Zelensky in New York and stated that Ukraine will be able to return all territories seized by Russia.
After meeting with Zelensky, President Trump wrote on social media that Ukraine is capable of recapturing all of its occupied territory, reports Air forceDuring his speech at the UN General Assembly, Trump criticized China and India: by buying gas and oil from Russia, they finance the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump met in New York, where the 80th session of the UN General Assembly is taking place.
After the negotiations, the American President wrote on his social network that “Ukraine, with the support of the EU, is capable of returning the country’s territory to its original form.”

Donald Trump noted that he "fully understood the military-economic situation between Ukraine and Russia" and "saw the economic problems it causes for Russia."
"With time, patience, and financial support from Europe, and particularly NATO, the initial boundaries from which this war began are a very real possibility. And why not? Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years in a war that a real military force should have won in less than a week. This doesn't play into Russia's hands. In fact, it makes them look like a paper tiger," Trump said.
He assured that the United States would continue to supply weapons to NATO, and the Alliance would dispose of them as it saw fit.
After speaking with Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters that it was "a very good meeting and perhaps the most meaningful."
According to Zelensky, Trump gradually realized that Putin was providing him with distorted information that "was far from the truth on the battlefield."
"Now he trusts me much more," Zelensky said.
According to him, the United States will provide Ukraine with security guarantees "after the end of the war."
Macron took Trump at his word
Following the conversation between Trump and Zelensky, the American president met with French President Emmanuel Macron.
"I just saw the message you published after your meeting with Zelenskyy, and I think it's very appropriate. If we quickly support Ukraine in this situation, given the problems in the Russian economy, we will have the opportunity for a bright future," Macron remarked.
During his conversation with the French president, Trump repeated his idea that Ukraine could get its lands back.
During the briefing, Donald Trump expressed respect for Ukraine's "fight" and noted that the state of the Russian economy is currently "terrible" and that it is "falling apart."
"Frankly, Ukraine did a good job. They stopped this truly great country," the White House chief emphasized.
When a reporter asked him if he believed NATO countries should shoot down Russian planes if they violated the Alliance's airspace, Donald Trump replied: "Yes, I do."
It is significant that a few hours earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ruled out the possibility of shooting down Russian aircraft violating NATO airspace, unless they commit aggressive actions.
In addition, the American president suggested that Hungary might stop buying Russian energy after he speaks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
On the eve of the talks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Donald Trump for his support and agreed with the US president's call for Europe to stop purchasing Russian energy resources.
China and India are the main sponsors of the war
Prior to this, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump stated that China and India, by purchasing gas and oil from Russia, were funding the war in Ukraine. He stated that he believed "the war in Ukraine would be the easiest to end," but that Russia was not ready for a peace agreement.
"China and India are the main sponsors of this war because they buy oil and gas from Russia," the American leader concluded, adding that NATO countries do the same.
Trump once again stated that since Russia is not ready for a peace agreement, the US plans to impose new, harsh tariffs to stop the "bloodshed in Ukraine." However, he again added a condition he had mentioned earlier: for this to happen, European countries must join in, rather than continue buying oil from Russia.
"They are funding a war against themselves," Trump said of NATO countries buying oil from Russia.
Which countries buy oil from Russia?
For Moscow, energy revenues remain the main source of budget revenue and, in particular, allow it to finance the war in Ukraine.
According to open data, NATO countries account for a relatively small share of the oil and petroleum products that Russia sells to various countries around the world.
Here are the data from the CREA analytical center, published in August of this year:
- China is the largest buyer of Russian oil, accounting for 47% of supplies,
• India - 38%,
• European Union - 6%,
• Türkiye – 6%.
At the same time, Türkiye, as a NATO member, is the largest buyer of Russian petroleum products: according to CREA, it accounts for 26% of purchases.
The Energy Intelligence website reported that Türkiye was buying more than 300 barrels of Russian oil per day in June.
Reuters, citing its sources, reported that Turkey's largest oil refiner, Tupras, resumed purchasing oil from Russia in the spring, although it had not done so for a year due to American sanctions.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Europe has cut its imports of Russian oil by 90%, but Hungary and Slovakia (also NATO members) continue to receive it through the Druzhba pipeline.
According to Reuters, Budapest and Bratislava buy about 200–300 barrels of Russian oil per day, which is approximately 3% of the EU's total demand.
Trump reminded Europe that it is much closer to Russia than the United States: "There's an ocean between us, and you're right there. Europe must act decisively. They can't continue what they're doing. It's a disgrace. They must stop buying oil and gas—otherwise, we're just wasting our time here."
Putin "let down" Trump
On the eve of his talks with Trump, Zelensky met with US Presidential Special Representative Keith Kellogg.
According to Zelenskyy, they discussed the situation on the front and the results of the counteroffensive near Dobropillia and Pokrovsk. They also discussed mutual agreements on drones and the purchase of American weapons.
