Trump again gave Putin two weeks to make peace with Ukraine
President Donald Trump said on August 22 that he would give Russian President Vladimir Putin "a couple of weeks" after he called on the Russian leader to meet with the Ukrainian president in hopes of ending the war, reports CNN.
Asked whether there was a chance he would do nothing if Putin did not come to the negotiating table, Trump replied: "We'll see. I'll see whose fault it is."
"If there are reasons, I will understand; I know exactly what I am doing. We will see if they have a meeting, it will be interesting to see. If they don't, then why didn't they have a meeting? Because I told them to have a meeting," the American leader explained.

"But in two weeks I will know what I am going to do," he added, repeating the deadline he has repeatedly given to determine Putin's readiness to end the war in Ukraine.
His latest comments come as all signs point to the bilateral meeting the White House is pushing for not happening. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Aug. 22 that the two leaders had no plans to meet.
After Trump met with Putin in Alaska and hosted Zelensky and European leaders at the White House, he hinted at a bilateral meeting that could potentially be followed by a trilateral meeting with him.
"You know I wanted to have a meeting with the two of them. I could have been there, but a lot of people think it's not going to work. 'You should be there.' Maybe, maybe not, but we'll see. But in the meantime, people are still dying," Trump said on August 22.
The head of the White House repeated the phrase about the two-week period several times: "We'll see what happens. I think in two weeks we'll know which direction I'm going to go, because I'm going to go one way or the other, and they'll know which way."
The US President pulled out a photo from the Resolute desktop of him and Putin in Anchorage, which he said was sent to him by the Russian leader.
“I just got a picture from somebody who really wants to be there,” Trump said, referring to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in three countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico. Note.) “He was very respectful to me and our country, but not so respectful to others,” Trump concluded, adding that he was going to sign a photo for Putin, who he suggested might come to the United States for the World Cup.
"He may or may not come. It will all depend on what happens. We have a lot of events in the next couple of weeks," the American president emphasized.

Putin on Aug. 22 called his recent meeting with Trump “very good” and said Russia was committed to ending the fighting in Ukraine. He did not, however, say whether he would take part in bilateral talks with Zelensky.
The Russian leader added that Russian and American agencies continue to maintain contact and that he expects a “full-scale restoration” of their relations.
