Injury and damage: large batch of ceiling fans recalled in the United States
More than 190 ceiling fans have been recalled in the United States because their blades can become detached during use. CNN.
King of Fans, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based company that makes 54-inch Mara ceiling fans, has announced a recall after receiving 47 blades disconnected reports, according to statement US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The fans were sold at Home Depot stores across the country.
Two of these reports indicated that a blown fan blade hit someone. Four reports say the blade caused property damage.
King of Fans noted that not all of their Mara ceiling fans are responsive. The CPSC said the recall applies to Mara ceiling fans in matte white, matte black, black and polished nickel plating. The Commission advises consumers who have purchased these items to “stop using them immediately”.

"If consumers observe uneven blade-to-fan clearances or clip movement during use, they should contact King of Fans immediately for a free ceiling fan replacement."
King of Fans said the ceiling fan malfunctions were caused by "a separate manufacturing defect in the assembly of the fan blade retaining clip on the flywheel."
“One of the two screws holding the retaining clip in place is not properly attached to the flywheel,” the company said in a statement posted on its website. “This could cause the blade to become detached from the fan during use, which could cause injury.”
The CPSC said the recalled ceiling fans cost around $ 150 and were sold exclusively at Home Depot (HD) stores in the United States and on the company's website from April 2020 to October 2020.

Home Depot confirmed via email that they sold about 80 fans before recalling them from stores. Upon discovering the problem, the seller stated that he "voluntarily recalled the product and stopped selling."
“We are committed to the safety and quality of our products,” a Home Depot spokesperson said in an email.
