Trump has banned taking transgender into the US Army

US President Donald Trump has signed a directive prohibiting transgender people from serving in the US military. The intention of the president to do this was announced three weeks ago. Thus, Trump reversed the decision of the Barack Obama administration, taken a year ago.

According to CNN, the document also prohibits the Ministry of Defense to use its resources to provide treatment for transgender people who currently serve in the army.

Trump instructed the ministries of defense and national security to "determine what to do with the transgender military who are currently in the service."

The White House spokesman, who informed journalists about the directive on Friday evening, refused to say whether the current transgender military could continue to serve in the armed forces in accordance with these principles.

He also rejected any claim that the Trump directive discriminated transgender people and insisted that Trump did not give up his promises of the 2016 presidential campaign of the year when he promised to fight for LGBT Americans.

"The President is the President for all Americans, and during last year's campaign he was the first Republican candidate to speak about LGBT issues at the Republican National Convention, but he also criticized the Obama administration's decision to allow transgender people to serve," the spokesman said.

Directive signed a month after Trump wrote in Twitterthat he will return the ban to take on the service of transgender people, which was a surprise to the military leadership and chiefs of staff.

“Having consulted with my generals and military experts, please note that the United States government will not allow ... transgender people to serve in the US armed forces in any capacity,” Trump wrote in a microblog.

According to the RAND strategic research center, there are thousands of transgender people in the US military from 2 to 11.

According to the organization's calculations in 2016, medical care for transgender people increased the Pentagon's annual spending on medicine by a maximum of 0,13% - that's about $8,4 million.

Former military personnel filed lawsuit in court, which stated that the president made the decision without consultation with the highest military command.

Recall that in the 2016 year after the abolition of the “don't ask - don't say” rule, which allowed members of sexual minorities to serve in the army, provided they hid their sexual orientation, the Obama administration took a new step, by allowing transgender people openly serve in the armed forces.
