Trump tops the list of people the world admires, ending Obama's 12-year leadership

The current US President Donald Trump has been ahead of President Barack Obama in the list of people admired by the world. Obama has held the top spot for 12 years. Writes about it Independent.

Obama, along with Dwight D. Eisenhower, topped the list for the longest time.

Michelle Obama continues to lead the poll among the most admired women, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in second place.

In the 76 years that Gallup polled Americans, the incumbent was ranked first 60 times at the time of the poll. Current or former first ladies often top women's lists.

In response, respondents can name anyone in the world.

While 48% of Republican supporters cited Trump as their choice, and no other public figure received more than 2% of the vote, Democrats shared their responses.

President Obama received 32% of the vote (up from 41% in 2019), President-elect Joe Biden received 13%, and infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci received 5%.

When the incumbent president is not leading the poll, this is usually when he is unpopular. In previous years, the following did not reach the top of the list: Harry Truman (1946-1947 and 1950-1952), Lyndon Johnson (1967-1968), Richard Nixon (1973), Gerald Ford (1974-1975), Jimmy Carter (1980), George Bush (2008) and Trump (2017-2018).

The top 2020 men of XNUMX included Trump, Obama, Biden and Dr. Fauci, followed by Pope Francis, Elon Musk, Senator Bernie Sanders, Bill Gates, LeBron James and the Dalai Lama.

Donald Trump tweeted this victory, mentioning that Biden is far behind him.

“Barack Obama was knocked off the top spot and President Trump became the most admired person of the year. Trump is number one, Obama is number two, and Joe Biden is number three, that's a long way off. It's also quite strange considering the fact that Biden supposedly got millions more votes than Trump on November 3 but can't get close to him in that poll. No new president has ever been this far ahead in this annual poll,” Trump wrote.

In the 71 years that Gallup surveyed admired women, the current or former first lady has come out on top 57 times.

The same has happened every year since 1997, with Hillary Clinton accounting for the majority, besides Michelle Obama from 2018 to 2020 and Laura Bush in 2001.

Melania Trump, ranked third this year, joins Bess Truman and Lady Bird Johnson as former or current first ladies who did not come out on top in the poll.

After Obama, Harris and Trump, the top ten this year included Oprah Winfrey, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Hillary Clinton, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Queen Elizabeth II, Judge Amy Connie Barrett and climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Barrett and Thunberg barely beat other women who missed the top 10: Dolly Parton, Condoleezza Rice, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Senator Elizabeth Warren, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, actress Betty White and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Outside the public sphere, Americans named a friend or family member—11% for men and 16% for women.

About a fifth of the respondents did not answer any of the polls.

The world-renowned American religious and public figure, Billy Graham in the men's poll with 10 appearances and Queen Elizabeth II, with 61 appearances in the women's poll, holds the record for the most hits in the top 52.
