Trump legalizes the use of experimental drugs
It is about the right of patients with fatal diseases to take drugs that are not approved by the regulatory authorities.
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a law that provides patients who have been diagnosed with fatal diseases, the "right to try" experimental drugs that can prolong their lives, writes Voice of America.
At the signing ceremony at the White House, Trump called the measure “fundamental freedom” of people in conditions that threaten their lives. It is about the right to use drugs that have demonstrated their effectiveness in preliminary testing, but not approved by regulatory authorities and not put on sale.
This bill was approved last week by Congress after heated discussions. Republicans argued that the proposed measure would allow hope to be regained to thousands of people trying to save their lives, while many Democrats believe that hope will be false.
In January, Trump expressed support for the bill in an appeal to Congress on the situation in the country, saying that people suffering from fatal diseases should not leave the US for other countries in search of experimental drugs.
Patients will be able to use such drugs only if they exhaust other treatment options by taking medications approved by the regulatory authorities.
