Trump fired an official of Ukrainian origin, who was a witness in the impeachment case

Alexander Windman, a US Army lieutenant colonel and a member of the US National Security Council, who testified at the hearing of impeachment by President Donald Trump, was removed from the White House. This was reported by his lawyer, reports "Voice of America".

In a statement, attorney David Pressman said in particular: "The question does not arise in the minds of Americans why this person was fired (...) Lieutenant Colonel Windman was asked to leave for telling the truth."

Windman testified at a hearing in the House of Representatives of the US Congress and said that President Trump made unlawful demands to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. The US Senate declared President Trump innocent by a majority vote.

On Friday, Trump was asked about Windman's future. The president replied: “I am not pleased with him. Do you think I should be pleased with him? They will make a decision. ”

Windman’s service on the US National Security Council was due to end in July.

Earlier, Jennifer Williams, national security adviser in the office of US Vice President Mike Pence, who also testified at the impeachment hearing, was placed at the disposal of the US Central Command.

Who is Alexander Windman?

US Army Lieutenant Colonel Windman became Director of the European Department of the US National Security Council in July 2018. In the White House, he is considered the main expert in Ukraine.

Alexander Windman was born in 1975 in Kiev. 4 years after his birth, his mother died, and the father of the family decided to emigrate to the United States. Three sons went with him - Leonid, as well as twins Alexander and Eugene.

Alexander graduated from Binghamton University in the state of New York, then received a master's degree at Harvard. His biography says that he is fluent in Russian and Ukrainian.

Windman received his first officer rank in 1999, then served in South Korea and Germany. In 2004, with the rank of captain, he was sent to Iraq. There, a month after arrival, he was seriously injured in the explosion of a makeshift bomb. After that, Windman was awarded the Order of the Purple Heart.

Since 2008, he served as the military attache of the US embassies in Kiev and Moscow, and then served as adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Russia.
