Trump warmly received Netanyahu in the White House after several years of cold relations with Obama

President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warmly greeted each other at the White House on Monday, calling the US-Israel relationship "the best" in the entire history of the Jewish state.

Trump met Netanyahu in the Oval Office for the first time after the United States announced its intention shift the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem writes Fox News.

“We have the best relationship with Israel that we've ever had,” Trump said.

During the two presidential terms of Obama, he and Netanyahu had tense relations, manifested in extremely harsh body language and brief remarks during the meeting and communication before the press.

During the Obama administration, the White House even sent out a press photo of the then commander-in-chief who spoke by telephone with Netanyahu in the Oval Office in September 2013. Obama threw his legs on the table, and some saw this as a deliberate manifestation of disrespect.

The Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz was critical of the image.

“The president has his feet up on the table, his face stern and his fingers clenched as if he is dictating to Netanyahu,” the newspaper wrote. “As an enthusiast of Muslim culture, Obama probably knows that in the Middle East there is no greater insult than showing the sole of your shoe to another person.” Indeed, photographs of other presidential calls show Obama leaning on a table with his feet on the floor.”

The Trump-Netanyahu friendship is a major shift in the frosty relationship between the Israeli prime minister and Obama, who was even accused of helping finance the opposition to oust Netanyahu during his 2015 re-election bid.

Relationships were even more strained due to the decision of the Obama administration to move forward with the Iran nuclear deal.

On Monday, Trump announced his intention to attend the opening of the embassy in Jerusalem in mid-May. “Israel is special to me, special country, special people, and I look forward to being there,” Trump said.

Netanyahu praised Trump's "leadership and friendship", noting that "under your leadership [the US-Israeli relationship] has never been so strong."

None of them touched upon the corruption scandal that swept the Netanyahu administration, or the ongoing Russian research that hampered Trump in the White House.
