US President Donald Trump has appointed the head of the US Department of Homeland Security, John Kelly, as the new chief of staff for the White House, the president himself said on Twitter.

Irish Catholic John Kelly was born in 1950 year in Boston. Since 1970, Kelly has been pursuing a career in the army. He served in the Marine Corps and, in 2003, as Deputy Commander of the 1 Division of the Marine Corps, James Mattis, entered Iraq, where he was responsible for organizing the promotion of regimental combat groups through Iraqi positions. In 2008-2009, the 1 Expeditionary Corps of the Marine Corps, which he commanded, operated in the Iraqi provinces of Anbar and Ninawa.

Kelly completed military service in the 2016 year with the rank of general. In 2011-2012, he served as Senior Military Advisor to Defense Minister Leon Panetta. In 2012, he headed the US Southern Command to prevent drug trafficking in South and Central America and to help train Latin American and Caribbean military countries. In January 2017, Trump appointed him Minister of Internal Security.

“I have been fortunate to have served my country for more than 45 years, first as a Marine and then as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. I am honored to have been asked to serve as Chief of Staff to the President of the United States,” Kelly said in a statement Friday.

“I am pleased to announce that I have just named General John Kelly as White House Chief of Staff. He is a great American and a great leader. John has done an amazing job at the Department of Homeland Security and is a true "star" in my administration," the president wrote in Twitter.

The media writes that 67-year-old General Kelly is chosen to head the administration to ensure discipline in the White House. The head of the presidential staff previously held Rins Pribas, but in recent days in an open conflict with him entered a week ago appointed new director of communications at the White House, Anthony Scaramucci.

“I would like to thank Rince Priebus for his service and dedication to this country. We have achieved a lot together, and I am proud of him!” Trump wrote in connection with the appointment of a new chief of staff.

Prybas himself, in an exclusive interview with CNN, endorsed Trump’s decision and stated that the reason for his resignation was President Donald Trump’s desire to update the administration.

“The president wanted to move in a different direction. The president has the right to start a "reset," he said, pointing out that Trump has "good political instincts." Priebus added that he still approves of Trump's policies and wished his successor good luck in this post. “It was one of the best times of my life, the opportunity to serve this president and our country. I want to thank the President for giving me this special opportunity. I will continue to be an unwavering supporter of his policies. I can't think of a better candidate for this position than General John Kelly. I wish him God's blessing and great success," Priebus said.

“He helped seal the border and reduce illegal immigration by 70%. Everyone respects him, especially the people at the Department of Homeland Security,” Sanders said.

Kelly will start work in a new post on Monday.
