Trump wants to drastically reduce costs in the budget for 2020 year

The White House will offer to significantly reduce non-defense expenditures in the 2020 budget proposal for the year, officials said.

However, the document will not be submitted to Congress by the deadline - February 4.

The head of the National Economic Council of the White House, Larry Cadlow, told Fox Business Network that the administration will offer a “very tough” budget “in a few weeks” and call for a general reduction in domestic spending by at least 5 percent.

“Let's minimize the government where it is possible,” said Cadlow.

A senior White House Budget Authority, who asked not to be named, referred to the 35-day partial suspension of government activities as a reason for the delay in submitting a budget proposal for the 2020 year.

According to the staff of the Congress, the administration’s proposal will encounter tough resistance from the Democrats, who have repeatedly opposed budget cuts in all areas.

Chairman of the House Committee of Representatives Democrat Democrat John Yarmuth told Reuters on Tuesday that he and other high-ranking Democrats intend to draw up a fiscal plan this year that will reduce the annual budget deficit by 50 percent in the next 10 years.

According to Yarmouth, this plan may include tax increases on corporations and the rich.

By law, the White House should present its budget proposals on the first Monday of February, but many White House budget officials were sent on leave during shatdaun.

Another administration official said that the budget proposals would not be disclosed until the Trump report to Congress on the state of affairs in the country, which he will deliver on February 5. According to him, the delay may be several weeks or more.

The US budget deficit last year amounted to 779 billion dollars, and this year may be about 900 billion. But public debt is growing at a much faster pace, given interest payments.

Washington entered the 2019 year with a national debt of roughly 22 trillions of dollars amid slowing economic growth.

On Monday, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office warned that if Congress did not make a budget adjustment, by 2029, the national debt would rise to 93 percent of the economy, which would be the highest since the early years after World War II.

By 2049, national debt can be about 150 percent of the economy. According to many experts, the US economy will not be able to withstand such a level of public debt.
