Trump has signed a new immigration decree: details

US President Donald Trump signed a new executive order on immigration and entry into the United States. The administration's first similar attempt was previously blocked by federal courts. According to White House representatives, the head of state signed the document “this morning,” and the ceremony itself took place closed to the press.

The new decree provides for a 90-day travel ban on US citizens of 6 countries - Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. As for the admission of Syrian refugees, their ban reduced to 120 days.

“We cannot jeopardize the security of our country by allowing entry to citizens when their own governments are unable or unwilling to provide the necessary information, or when those governments actively support terrorism,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Monday.

The new decree also ensures that tens of thousands of green card holders from these countries will not face a travel ban.

Iraq was excluded from the list of countries, as the Iraqi government introduced new verification procedures, namely: increased screening when issuing visas and data sharing. In addition, Iraq was a partner of the United States in the fight against the "Islamic State".

Thousands of Iraqis fought alongside American forces for years or worked as translators from 2003. Many of them moved to the United States because of threats related to working with American troops.

"The United States welcomes this type of close cooperation," the US Attorney General said. “This amended order will strengthen the security of the United States and our allies.”

While the first decree introduced immediate restrictions, the new directive will introduce them gradually.

“There will be a very orderly process,” a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security was quoted as saying by the publication. Reuters. "You shouldn't see any of the chaos that has taken place at airports previously."

Refugees who have already been approved earlier will be able to enter the United States.

“No immigrant or nonimmigrant visa holder issued prior to the effective date of this order shall be subject to cancellation under this order,” the order states.

In addition, the new decree spells out detailed categories of people who have the right to enter the country — for example, for a business or medical direction, as well as people with family ties in the US, those who were invited to work or study, employees of international organizations, those who has lived and worked or studied in the USA for a long time, but at the time of the introduction of the decree is on a business trip.

The decree is gaining legal force 16 March 2017 of the year.
