Trump achieved the release of an American from an Egyptian prison
An Egyptian-American woman detained in Egypt almost 3 years ago on human trafficking charges was flown to the United States on a US military aircraft, accompanied by a senior White House official, reports “Voice of America", with reference to the US Presidential Administration.
Last Sunday, a Cairo court acquitted Aija Hijazi and 7 people who worked with homeless children.
Hijazi was released on Tuesday after almost 3 years in prison.
She was taken by plane to the combined base of Andrews in the vicinity of Washington.
According to an anonymous source in the administration, US President Donald Trump privately asked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to help this case when he visited the White House on April 3.
Publicly during the meeting with the Egyptian leader Trump did not mention this matter.
US officials raised the Hijazi case with the Egyptians soon after Trump took office on January 20, a spokesman said.
30-year-old Hijazi founded a non-governmental organization Belady which contributes to a better life for street children. In conclusion, she spent the month 33 for violating the Egyptian law, which states that the maximum period of preliminary detention is 24 a month, writes Daily Mail.
Trump and his assistants worked “for several weeks” with the Egyptian authorities on the release of Hijazi, her husband Mohamed Hassanein, and 4 other humanitarian workers.
Hassanein and 4 other volunteers are Egyptian citizens.
The Obama administration failed to achieve Egyptian cooperation in the release of the accused.
Hijazi has scheduled a meeting with Trump, his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who is believed to be personally interested in the history of the volunteers.
“We are very grateful that President Trump has personally addressed this issue. Working closely with the Trump administration was very important to my family at this critical time. This allowed us to reunite with our family. We are so grateful,” Hijazi said in a phone conversation.
