Trump announces US development of 'super duper missiles'

The US is developing a hypersonic missile that will be the fastest in the world and will fly at three times the speed of missiles from other powers such as Russia and China. This was announced in Washington on Friday, May 15, by President Donald Trump at the presentation of the US Space Force flag. The projectile, which, according to Trump, will soon enter service with the US army, he called a “super duper missile” (“super duper missile”).

He noted that Russia and China are working on missiles that are five or six times faster than existing ones. “Ours is 17 times faster, and this project just got the green light... This is the fastest rocket in the world, almost three times faster than the Russian and Chinese ones,” Trump assured.

The US Congress approved the creation of the Space Force on December 17, 2019. They will become the sixth branch of the armed forces, along with the Army, Air Force and Navy, as well as the Coast Guard and Marine Corps. Their total number, according to the Pentagon, will initially be 16 thousand military and civilian personnel, and General Jay Raymond will be the commander. The bill states that one of the tasks of the new American space force is to protect against aggression and conduct operations in space.

In late December 2019, the Russian military adopted a new Avangard-class hypersonic missile, which Moscow claims flies at 20 times the speed of sound. Due to this circumstance, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, Avangard is invulnerable to air defense.
