Trump announced its plan to restore infrastructure for $ 1,5 trillion

US President Donald Trump 12 February will announce its detailed plan for the development of the country's infrastructure, and will also meet with local government officials to discuss this initiative.

The plan is designed for 10 years and provides for the allocation of billions of dollars of federal funds for 200 infrastructure projects and attracting investments in the amount of 1,5 trillion dollars, reports Politico.

This money will be used to repair bridges, roads, railways and other infrastructure facilities.

The initiative provides for active financial infrastructure projects on the part of local authorities, as well as private sector participation.

200 billions of federal funds will be allocated through cuts in a variety of existing programs in the budget, a draft of which the White House also plans to introduce February 12. Of this amount, half of the funds will go to programs that encourage investment in infrastructure by states and local governments. About 50 billions are planned to be spent on projects in rural areas, which will be given to states as subsidies.

About 20 billions will be allocated to “transformational programs” related to new and innovative infrastructure projects. In addition, 20 billions will be used to expand lending programs and bonds of private organizations. The remaining 10 billions will go to the capital investment fund.

The plan also provides for a reduction in the period and cost of obtaining permits from federal authorities to carry out infrastructure repairs. Currently, this process can take up to 10 years, if Trump’s plan is approved, this period will be reduced to a maximum of two years.

But it is not yet clear whether the Congress will approve the president’s initiative.

Some Republicans have already spoken out against the plan, as the recent tax cuts and planned spending increases in the next two years will increase the US national debt of 20,6 trillion dollars, and the adoption of such an infrastructure plan will only exacerbate the cost situation.

The plan for the democrats is not satisfied with the fact that the government intends to invest a relatively small amount in its implementation compared to the amounts that will be invested by states and entrepreneurs.

Unsatisfied with the proposal and environmentalists.

“President Trump's infrastructure proposal is an unmitigated disaster. It does not provide for the investments needed to bring our country into the 21st century. Worse, the plan provides unacceptable incentives for corporations by limiting environmental reviews,” said Shelley Potica of the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Despite not disagreeing with Trump’s proposed decision, most politicians and US officials agree that the US infrastructure is in terrible condition. The American Society of Civil Engineers, involved in the repair and construction of infrastructure facilities, said that by 2025, the amount of investment needed to improve infrastructure infrastructure would be 4,59 trillion dollars, which they do not have, and Trump's plan will not be able to cover this need either.
