Trump promises to ban visas for Work and Travel
US presidential candidate Donald Trump intends to ban the J-1 visa, which allows foreigners to come to the country as part of the so-called “cultural exchange”, including the Work and Travel program.
Each year, this program (J-1 visa), which allows foreign students to work in the United States, provides American companies with about 300 thousands of workers.
The billionaire believes that J-1 visas are beneficial only to companies that need cheap labor.
Instead, Trump proposes replacing foreign students with young Americans, creating a bank resume.
Nevertheless, the Trump hotel in Chicago constantly hired Irish students who came on a J-1 visa.
“I don't understand his thought process when he talks about eliminating J-1 visas. I’m not even sure that he knows how many foreign students come and work for him,” commented Sybil Kirbhallain, who previously worked at Trump’s restaurant.
Note that Work and Travel USA is the most popular international student exchange program (the State Department’s annual quota for participants in this program is more than 100 thousand places), the purpose of which is to provide full-time students with the opportunity to get temporary work and travel for up to five months during summer holidays.
As ForumDaily wrote earlier, in December 2015, the Trump acted for the “universal and total ban” for Muslims to enter the United States. According to him, such measures are necessary as long as the special services “do not understand the situation” with radicalism.
US presidential elections will be held on November 8 2016 of the year.
