A DoorDash courier delivered burgers to Trump in the Oval Office; he gave her a $100 tip.
On April 13, President Donald Trump ordered two McDonald's bags delivered to the Oval Office and tipped the DoorDash delivery driver $100. He used the stunt to publicly promote tax policies he claimed had provided significant returns to Americans who earn income through tips, according to NBC Washington.
Sharon Simmons, wearing a DoorDash Grandma T-shirt, approached the outer door of the Oval Office and knocked. Television cameras were on the scene. Trump peered out and said, "Hello. It's good to see you," then, turning his gaze toward the camera crew, added, "Look at this! This doesn't look staged, does it?"
Of course it did. Access to the White House grounds requires prior authorization and security clearance, and access to the Oval Office—let alone such close contact with the president—is impossible without additional background checks and background checks.

With this delivery, the White House is trying to draw more attention to a part of the Trump-backed tax and budget package passed last summer that allows Americans to deduct tips from their taxable income. This provision allows some workers to deduct up to $25,000, but the deduction gradually decreases for those with higher incomes.
The information campaign was timed to coincide with Tax Day on April 15.
McDonald's has long been the president's favorite food, and he has used it for political advertising.
During his first term as president in 2019, he ordered McDonald's food, along with a large quantity of other fast food, to treat the NCAA football champion Clemson Tigers when the White House kitchen was short-staffed due to the government shutdown.
Trump also staged one of the most memorable moments of his 2024 campaign by visiting a McDonald's restaurant in Pennsylvania, where he worked as a fryer and answered reporters' questions through a drive-thru window.
On April 13, Simmons, who DoorDash identified as an Arkansas resident, told the president that the tax changes had saved her $11,000. She said this was especially important during a time when her husband was battling cancer.
Trump then asked, "Would you like to do a quick press conference with me?" He placed her next to him, where she felt awkward as the head of state answered reporters' questions about his threats to close the Strait of Hormuz and his refusal to apologize to the Pope.
Later, the president asked Simmons, "I think you voted for me. Right?" To which she replied, "Um... maybe." Unfazed, Trump continued, "I hear you're a big supporter of mine. We appreciate that."
When a reporter asked afterward if the White House tips generously, Simmons hesitated: "Um... maybe."
"Wait," Trump said, pulling a $100 bill from his pocket and smilingly handing it to Simmons. As the president patted her on the back and grinned, she took the money, laughed, and added, "Yes, very much so."

A few minutes later, Trump turned to Simmons again and persistently asked her whether she believed "men should participate in women's sports," a topic he frequently raises when criticizing Democrats for supporting transgender rights.
"I don't have an opinion on that," Simmons replied, after which Trump pressed: "I think there is."
"No, no," she insisted. "I'm here to repeal the tip tax."
The White House later said Trump personally handed out food—cheeseburgers and French fries—to West Wing staff.
It was also reported that he did not receive a tip for this.
