Trump: banks and shops should help people affected by the shatdaun

US President Donald Trump said that businesses in all regions of the United States, including grocery stores and banks, are likely to “work together” with federal employees affected by the partial closure of the government.

The president made this statement in response to a request from journalists to comment on the words of the head of the Commerce Department, Wilbur Ross, who said that federal workers affected by the shatdaun should take loans, not use food banks, writes USA Today.

Trump stressed that he did not hear Ross’s comments and doesn’t know the details of his statement, but the president offered a possible explanation to the official: federal workers who were sent on forced leave or forced to work without pay should be able to easily get help from businesses in their community .

“Perhaps he should have said it differently. Locals know who they are, where they go for groceries and everything else. They will work together. I know that banks are already working with them (federal employees). This is what should happen in times like this. They know people; they have been dealing with them for years. And they work together. The same goes for grocery stores. I think that's probably what Wilbur Ross meant," Trump said.

The partial closure of the federal government, which lasts for the 34 day, has led to the fact that around 800 000 workers were sent on compulsory underpaid leave or forced to work without wages. According to a poll conducted by Bankrate in January, most Americans cannot afford to cover extraordinary expenses in the amount of 1000 dollars.

Trump signed a law guaranteeing that the injured federal workers will receive compensation at the end of the shatdaun.

Numerous banks pledged to help federal workers left without wages because of the shatdaun. Some, including the Congressional Credit Union, offer special credit lines for federal employees.

Many other businesses, from cell phone companies to restaurants, have also offered various free programs to help federal workers.

Recall more than a month ago (December 22) in the US, began shatdaun - partial closure of the federal government due to lack of funding. The congress and presidential administration cannot agree on expenses for the next year or at least several months. President Donald Trump is demanding almost 6 billion dollars to be allocated for the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico, but Congress, whose lower house is under the control of the Democratic Party after the mid-term elections, refuses to allocate this money.
