Tragic holiday: in Illinois, mother lost five children on her birthday

Firefighters from the East St. Louis Fire Department found two children in a bedroom with no signs of life.

According to the investigator, the fifth child died on the way to the hospital.

Dunigan described how she tried to save the children, but the fire was too powerful.

The victim's aunt, Sheila Dunigan, said: “Our family has never been hit like this. We are devastated. We are broken. "

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Illinois Fire Department Marshall.

The family escaped injury after their previous house burned down five months ago, neighbors said.

Relatives, friends and leaders of the community gathered at the place for a prayer vigil. They released balloons and laid flowers in memory of the deceased brothers and sisters.

The East St. Louis school district, where three children studied, called the fire a tragedy.
