Fake Vegas Shooting News That You Could Believe

In the hours following the mass shooting, internet trolls and pranksters began spreading misinformation and inappropriate jokes aimed at misleading the public, promoting their own platforms and laughing - despite the tragedy.

Many of them worked, receiving hundreds of posts and likes on social networks, possibly from deceived users. All this underlined the fact that users of social networks too trust random accounts.

Take this tweet from user @bloomoreos, who claimed his father went missing in Vegas. It went viral with over 500 shares. The problem is that the photo on the avatar is a photo of movie star Johnny Sins.

“My son is missing in Mandalay Bay,” tweeted @redevicer. "Please RT, I'm really worried." However, the photo on the avatar belongs to Brandon Kingsom. More than 5000 users commented on the tweet, inviting the user to go to their account on Instagram below: "While you are here, follow me in Instagram! ».

Other accounts circulated alleged photos of a Las Vegas shooter that actually showed comic Sam Hyde. His photos often appear in social networks after the shootings.

Here is a user claiming his brother was at the hotel. Mandalay Bay, and "and his mobile phone is not responding." According to the message Buzzfeed News, the person in the photo is related to the case of a teenager killed in Mexico.

Sometimes misinformation comes from non-anonymous users. A Las Vegas commentator, Wayne Ruth, claims that the shooting on Monday morning was "clearly coordinated with the terrorist attack of the Muslims."

He later criticized "liberal criticism fools," saying that "I listen to a DIRECT police officer and reliable news source." Police later discredited Court's account, claiming that Paddock had no links with international terrorist groups.

9. Several far-right communities put forward a conspiracy theory, according to which Stephen Paddock, a man identified by the police as a supposed shooter, is associated with anti-fascist communities.

10. User YouTube named Stephen Haffley started a rumor that Stephen Paddock was spotted at a rally against Trump in Reno, Nevada, in August 2017 of the year. There is no evidence that Paddock was politically active.
