It sinks and damages boats, but such a cutie: a huge walrus caused problems in the ports of Europe and conquered social networks
In Northern Europe, a walrus weighing over 600 kg began sunbathing on boats in the summer, and some of them are too small for the “big girl”, reports USAToday.
Locals report that a young female walrus nicknamed Freya is causing cute havoc in countries such as the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden.
More recently, a marine mammal swam into Norway, the Norwegian Fisheries Authority said, where the animal sank a boat in the Oslo Fjord, a bay in the southeastern part of the country. No injuries were reported.
Named after the Norse goddess of love and beauty, Freya has admirers, but she also has sailor enemies after she sank and damaged boats.
A viral video posted online shows Freya climbing into the stern of a boat, basking in the sun, struggling to keep her mass on the surface, and otherwise capsizing ships. When she is awake in boats, another video shows her chasing ducks and swans.

According to the UCLA Sleep Research Center, a walrus can sleep about 19 hours a night.
The Norwegian Fisheries Authority has posted a statement online asking them to leave the walruses alone.
“This is a wild animal weighing approximately 600 kg, which is not necessarily as shy and clumsy as it may seem,” the statement said. “She is doing well, feeding, resting and appears to be in good health.”
“We are continuing our surveillance work to obtain information about the animal’s living and resting patterns,” the agency wrote. “It’s best if natural life runs its course; it has already moved away from areas with a lot of people.” In any case, we are ready if the walrus causes problems elsewhere.”
This week, the Fisheries Authority said it was considering relocating Freya.

“We are in contact with specialists, including the Institute of Marine Research, to find out how this can be done. We haven't finished working out the details yet. Additional information will be provided when a decision is made on any relocation process,” the Authority said.
