A top Google manager told how he manages to work on 8 hours a day and have time for everything

Senior Vice President Google on platforms and ecosystems, Hiroshi Lockheimer comes to the office not earlier than 9: 00, and leaves already at 17: 30. Often, Hiroshi sits down at a laptop late at night to work on some project, but he does not intend to sacrifice his personal life for the sake of his work.

Every morning, before work, Hiroshi takes the children to school.

“For me, it's like a ritual. I like to do it and I insist that it be behind me. We listen to the news on the way, they ask me questions about what is happening in the world. This is an important part of my morning, ”said Lockheimer.

In office, he usually gets to 9: 00. He is always trying to best distribute his time. Lockheimer tries not to hang over his team and not to spend every free minute responding to emails. Instead, he makes time for himself to think.

“I try to see the picture as a whole and think about what we are working on now, what is happening in the industry, what we should do - it sounds elementary, but in fact it is very difficult to find time just to think,” he admitted.

Hiroshi plays sports for at least half an hour a day, even when traveling. And he travels often - partners have Google around the world and his responsibilities include working closely with them.

“Sport helps me recharge, physically and mentally,” said Lockheimer. Previously, he started to charge as soon as free time appeared, but now he is trying to stick to the schedule.

As a rule, he leaves the office around 17: 30. When you get home, you have dinner with your family, and then for a while you rest or watch TV.

When the children go to bed, he sits down at his laptop to “pull up” the work.

In addition, Lockheimer spends some time reading something interesting or exploring new trends in the market.

“I don’t know if it’s good or bad advice, but in my case, personal life and work are closely intertwined. It is hard for me to separate these things. Therefore, I usually try to keep my schedule as much as possible, ”he stressed.
