Homebuyer.com used the median income and median home value in each state to determine the most affordable US states to buy a home in 2022. Which of them were on the list of the most accessible, said the publication CNBC.
The list ranks each state based on the average percentage of income needed to cover monthly mortgage costs, from lowest to highest.
The cheapest state to buy a house in 2022: Iowa

- Average income: $ 79
- Estimated monthly mortgage payment: $702
- Percentage of income: 10,6%
The largest housing markets in the state include Des Moines, Iowa City, and Cedar Rapids.

Hawaii is considered the least affordable state to buy a home. Residents of the island state pay a whopping 35,15% of median income to afford a home. The average home in Hawaii costs $615, and the estimated monthly mortgage payment is $300.
