From 2009 to 2011, it seemed that Americans began to increasingly prefer large metropolitan areas as their habitat. However, the latest published census data for 2015 year confirm that the indicators at the turn of the decades were anomalous phenomenon.
US residents again, as in all recent decades, are actively drawn to the suburbs - to places that are not so populated, and where real estate prices are significantly cheaper than in metropolitan areas. The absolute leader is the state of Texas.
Forbes represents the top ten metropolitan areas with the largest population growth from July 2014 to July 2015.
10. Orlando - Kissimmee - Sanford (Florida)
- Growth for the year: 60 409 people
- Population (as of July 2015): 2.38 million
9. Seattle - Tacoma - Bellevue (Washington)
- Growth for the year: 60 714 people
- Population (as of July 2015): 3.73 million
8. Washington - Arlington - Alexandria (District of Columbia, Virginia)
- Growth for the year: 63 793 people
- Population (as of July 2015): 6.09 million
7. Miami - Fort Lauderdale - West Palm Beach (Florida)
- Growth for the year: 75 231 people
- Population (as of July 2015): 6.01 million
6. Los Angeles - Long Beach - Anaheim (California)
- Growth for the year: 85 671 people
- Population (as of July 2015): 13.34 million
5. New York - Newark - Jersey City (New York, New Jersey)
- Growth for the year: 87 186 people
- Population (as of July 2015): 20.18 million
4. Phoenix - Mesa - Scottsdale (Arizona)
