Texas Congressman Threatens to Impeach Trump
Democratic Congressman Al Green said Trump's proposal to "take over Gaza" is ethnic cleansing. On February 5, he told the US House of Representatives that he was ready to initiate impeachment proceedings against the 47th president, writes The Guardian.
Trump's plan, according to Texas Congressman Al Green, is a "heinous undertaking" that amounts to ethnic cleansing, which is why he is introducing articles of impeachment against the president.
("To introduce articles of impeachment" means that a member of Congress formally introduces articles of impeachment, or a document containing charges against the president or other high-ranking official, to the House of Representatives.

The full House then debates whether to bring charges and votes on an impeachment resolution, the first of two steps in the removal process.
In the second stage, these charges are transferred to the Senate. Its sessions constitute a trial, at the end of which a decision is made. — Note.)
The abrupt move comes as Democrats are growing increasingly resistant to the Trump administration's new policies, which many see as a creeping coup.
Greene, a controversial politician who made several unsuccessful attempts to impeach Trump during his first term, is unlikely to succeed this time.
Pete Aguilar, the third-ranking Democrat in the House, said on Feb. 5 that impeachment is not yet a priority for his caucus.
Still, it is a sign that more elected Democrats are speaking out amid what critics say is a muted response from the party to the Trump administration’s sweeping moves. On Feb. 4, the liberal advocacy group Call to Activism published a clip of Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin’s speech in X in which he expressed a willingness to support a new impeachment effort.
"If you can find me two Republicans, I'll start working tomorrow," Raskin said, referring to the slim Republican majority in the House.
Greene, citing the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., denounced Trump's proposal to evict Palestinians from Gaza and turn the territory into a U.S.-owned "Riviera of the Middle East." The plan has been condemned around the world as "outrageous," "disgraceful" and "illegal."
"Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is no joke, especially when it comes from the president of the United States, the most powerful man in the world," Green said. "And the prime minister of Israel, who knows the history of his people, should be ashamed to stand there and allow such statements to be made.
Dr. King was right. Injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere, and injustice in Gaza threatens justice in the United States of America. I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the President has begun. I rise to announce that I will introduce articles of impeachment against the President for proposing to commit heinous acts and for heinous acts that have been committed."

Trump was impeached twice in his first term: in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress over his efforts to secure Ukraine's support in the upcoming election; and in 2021 for inciting the storming of the Capitol on January 6 after his defeat by Joe Biden. The Senate acquitted him in both cases.
"Some issues are better fought alone than not fought at all. I am alone on this issue, but I stand for justice," Greene emphasized on February 5.
