Theater STEPS will show in New York a new performance

The STEPS Theater opens the 2017 season and celebrates its 20th anniversary with a new work - the English version of the play Ask Joseph, the Russian version of which a year earlier evoked an emotional response from the audience and was included in the Contemporary Dramaturgy anthology. Even then, the idea arose to translate this play into English and show it to a wider audience.

Language is a full-fledged hero of the play, and it dictated its terms: Ask Joseph is a new play with talented New York actors and a solution suggested by life and time.

The play is based on some facts from the biography of Joseph Brodsky, but the story, the authors assure, is not about a specific person. This is a drama about an Artist who has radically changed his life and exists in extreme conditions of the duality of language and consciousness. Absurdity, love, mysticism, adultery, scandals, secret investigation, death - these are some of the plot twists in this drama. The play Ask Joseph is an attempt to reveal the secret of human genius, reflect on stereotypes of self-identification, and remind that language is a treasure, and we are obliged to preserve and increase it...

The performance will be held on 23, 24, 25 and 26 in February, as well as 24, 25 and 26 in March in New York at: 647 Columbus Avenue, New York, NY 10025.

The STEPS Theater was founded by director and playwright Slava Stepnov. The company works with actors of different nationalities and theater schools. The theater's repertoire includes plays by Chekhov, Pirandello, Byron, Albee, Vampilov, Cortazar, Pushkin and many other authors.

The works of the theater were presented to the audience in Latin America, Canada, New Zealand, Russia and Ukraine.
