Day without food and water: British Airlines flight survived two emergencies and was late by 28 hours

Hundreds of British Airways passengers from Pakistan eventually arrived at London Heathrow Airport, almost 28 hours late after an unscheduled landing in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. What happened, said the publication Independent.

Flight BA260 from Islamabad to London Heathrow Airport departed early Wednesday morning September 22nd and was due to land at 05:05 UK time.

The Boeing 777 was expected to be the first aircraft to arrive in the UK following the removal of the red list from Pakistan, as well as Turkey, Egypt and five other countries. As a result, it was almost full.

But when the passenger got sick, the plane headed for the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent. The passenger, believed to be an 83-year-old woman, subsequently died.

The pilots intended to continue their flight to the UK, but due to a "minor technical problem" the liner could not fly away. A spare plane was sent to rescue the passengers.

British Airways has no employees in the Uzbek capital. Initially, passengers were provided with food and water on board the aircraft. Then they were transferred to the airport lobby, and the flight crew was placed in a nearby hotel.

On Twitter, one user wrote: “Shame on British Airways. Left BA260 passengers at Tashkent airport without food for more than 28 hours. The captain and crew left the passengers in the waiting room and went to the hotel. Passengers, including a 10-month-old child and a wheelchair user, remained at the airport. "

The replacement plane, sent empty from London, arrived in Tashkent after 03:00 local time on September 23 - 27 hours after the plane landed. He stood for almost three hours for refueling and formalities.

The plane took off at 05:47 local time. Due to flight restrictions over eastern Ukraine and Belarus, he had to take a longer, more northern route. It eventually arrived at Heathrow at 08:44 - almost 28 hours late.

A British Airways spokesman said: "We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers, but the safety of passengers and crew is always our top priority."
