Russian court declares LGBT community an 'extremist organization'
The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation upheld the claim of the Ministry of Justice to ban the “international LGBTQ+ movement” and recognize it as an “extremist organization.” Writes about this Meduza.

The court hearing, which took place on November 30, was held behind closed doors. Only representatives of the Ministry of Justice were allowed into the courtroom. Journalists were invited only to the announcement of the decision.

The consideration of the Ministry of Justice's claim took Supreme Court Judge Oleg Nefedov four hours.
The lawsuit to ban the “international LGBT social movement” in Russia was filed by the Ministry of Justice on November 17. The agency did not provide details about what exactly it considers a “movement,” how to define who is participating, or how the movement itself is organized.

Activists believe that banning the "LGBTQ+ movement" would lead to increased hostility and discrimination against the community, possibly leading to persecution of LGBTQ people simply for their very existence.
