A court in Russia fined Google $50,5 million for articles about the war with Ukraine and ‘LGBT propaganda’
A court in Moscow imposed a fine of $50,5 million on Google for repeatedly failing to remove information prohibited by Russian law, reports “Voice of America".

According to Russian media, the reason was YouTube videos that talked about the losses of Russian troops in Ukraine and civilian casualties as a result of the Russian invasion. The videos also contained information that the authorities considered “LGBT propaganda.”
According to the Roskomnadzor protocol on an administrative offense against Google, the corporation was charged with failing to remove “false socially significant information about a special military operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, videos containing LGBT content from YouTube, as well as materials of an extremist nature.”

A company representative who participated in the meeting asked the court to discontinue the proceedings.
Roskomnadzor called on Google to remove the content, which was not done.
This is Google's third negotiable fine (the negotiable fine is based on the company's revenue for "illegal content") for failing to remove content in Russia. In 2021, the corporation was fined $77 million: this amount was forcibly collected from the company because it refused to pay. In 2022, Google was fined $233 million. Shortly before this, Google’s Russian subsidiary, Google LLC, filed for bankruptcy. In 2023, she was declared bankrupt.
