Scary and funny at the same time: Russia is turning into a revived dystopia

Every day Russian propaganda becomes more and more surreal. If at the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, she inspired aesthetics of the Third Reich, now, almost verbatim, she began to “cosplay” well-known dystopias, doing it also seriously, without the slightest self-irony.

A few days ago, a famous Z-performer Shaman (real name - Yaroslav Dronov) released a clip with the eloquent name "We". In it, the Shaman marches through Red Square wearing a leather jacket, biker knee pads, a Hitler Youth-style hairdo, and an armband in the colors of the Russian flag. It is rather difficult to find at least some logic in the text of the song itself and, frankly, it is difficult to understand anything, except for the repeated “we” in different ways and the phrase “God is with us” - the same one that has been engraved on buckles since 1935 belts of Wehrmacht soldiers.

By the way, the image of the "singer of war" was not appreciated even by his comrades-in-arms in the jingoistic camp. Well-known Ukrainian collaborator, one of the active figures of the so-called "Russian spring" Oleg Tsarev call clip "cosplay of Adolf Aloizovich's comrades-in-arms" and added that in Russia, Russian patriots are most often portrayed by non-patriots for money. in solidarity with him and propagandist Sergey Mardan, who wrote, what kind of “Stalin would have shot everyone involved” and reminded that the clip was released exactly on Hitler’s birthday.

However, Dronov was not embarrassed by the criticism, and soon after the first opus, he released a second video for the same song, which looked even more creepy. If you mute the sound, it feels like the screen is showing a modern sci-fi utopia about how children are turned into docile zombies in a “brave new world.”

However, even the clip itself faded in comparison with how it was presented on Russian television.

In this regard, I would like to recall another work, which was also called "We" - a dystopian novel Evgenia Zamyatinawritten over a hundred years ago, in 1920. According to the researchers, this work influenced George Orwell, Vladimir Nabokov and other famous authors. Here are just a couple of quotes from it:

In this book, words are carved on the gates of the Palace of the World Council, almost verbatim repeating the remark of the host “Time will tell”: “We are in everything, and everything is in us. There are no people, there is only the great We. Single, indivisible, eternal».

However, it is highly doubtful that Russian propagandists read dystopias or any literature in general, except for the Kremlin manuals. In this regard, it is especially eerie how literally they repeat the extremely exaggerated image of dictatorship, which over the years has become a classic of world literature.
