A hundred-year-old man got into the Guinness Book of Records: he worked for one company for 84 years

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Ortmann was born in the small Brazilian town of Brusque on April 19, 1922, and at the age of 15 he wanted to find a job to help his family with financial problems.

Due to his good command of German, on January 17, 1938, he was hired as a delivery assistant for the textile company Industrias Renaux SA, now known as ReneauxView. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to salesman and later became sales manager, a position he has held ever since.

He has been with the company for over 84 years, which was confirmed on January 6th. The longest career in one company - this made him a record holder in the Guinness Book of Records.

Ortmann is very proud of his record. He said that what pushed him to create the story was the focus on the present.

“I don’t plan much or care much about tomorrow. All I care about is that tomorrow is another day where I wake up, get up, work out and go to work,” he said. “You need to deal with the present, not the past or the future.” The here and now is important.”

Ortmann began traveling in Brazil for work in the 1950s and said he enjoyed being on the move and building good relationships with clients. Last week he celebrated his 100th birthday with colleagues, friends and family. Ortmann is in good health, "with excellent mental clarity and memory". The office is his favorite place, and he advises on how to achieve the same longevity as him - to work in a good company where people feel motivated.

“When we do what we like, we do not notice how time passes,” he said.
