The cost of gasoline in Northern California has reached nearly $10
In the coastal town of Mendocino, California, on June 3, the price of gasoline reached $9,60 per gallon (3,7 liters). That's more than $3 a gallon above the state average of $6,25, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). Writes about it SFGate.
Judy Schlafer owns Schlafer Auto Body & Repair in Mendocino and said her last 8 gallon gas shipment due within 880 days was about $10. Three months ago, she said she paid about $50 less for item of the same size. Schlafer said that if she didn't take $000, she would go broke.
For example, as of June 3, the average price in Oakland is $6,37 per gallon, San Jose is $6,38, and San Francisco is $6,50. And in Los Angeles, at one gas station, the price reached $ 8 per gallon. The national average cost of gasoline is about $4,76 per gallon. Fox5NY.
“I’ll be lucky if I make it through the year with all the fees, the regulation, the payroll,” she said. “If this continues, there won’t be a gas station in Mendocino next year.”

Schlafer's is the only gas station in the picturesque town that is popular with tourists and has attracted a lot of attention for its high prices amid soaring gas prices across the country. The gas station was repeatedly called the most expensive in the country in the media.
Schlafer does not believe this and says that gasoline is just as expensive elsewhere.
“Without a doubt, this is the most expensive gasoline in the country,” said Patrick De Haan, head of analysis at Gas Buddy.
$9.45/gal!! Thanks to Matthew for this pic of the Chevron in Mendocino, CA- the most expensive station in the country and the highest price we've recorded. It's over $3/gal higher than the California average and is a definite outlier. #gasprices pic.twitter.com/7AUuxDLCGI

The cost of crude oil affects gas station prices. The offer is currently limited, which means high prices. Supply problems began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when demand for oil plummeted. Demand recovered quickly, but production and supply are struggling to keep up.
“Refinery capacity has been reduced due to COVID-19,” De Haan said. — We do not have the capacity to process as much fuel as the market consumes. Prices continue to rise, it’s amazing to see how high prices are now.”

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also affected crude oil prices as the US and other countries imposed sanctions on Russia, cutting millions of barrels from global supplies.
The average gas price in California is $2 more than a year ago. In the last week alone, the average California gas price has risen by about 17 cents a gallon.
“Prices continue to rise,” De Haan said. “I don’t know when they will fall.”
