Elected US President Donald Trump has appointed Stephen Bennon, a political consultant who headed his campaign headquarters as his chief adviser.

Agency CBS News collected information about him to understand who will influence the decisions of 45-th US President.

Career and political views

Before joining Trump's election campaign, Bennon led the Breitbart pro-conservative news site for 5 years.

He is recognized as one of the inspirers of the alt-right movement, a far-right movement whose supporters believe that multiculturalism infringes on the interests of white people.

Bannon is one of the most powerful people in Trump's inner circle, and one of the most controversial.

Rep. Betty McCollum, a Democratic Party Rep., Said Bennon’s appointment “proves the disgusting course that Trump intends to lead the country.”

Bannon is a US Navy veteran who made his fortune at investment firm Goldman Sachs, and later also invested in Hollywood films, notably the TV series Seinfeld.

In 2012, he led the Breitbart website, which turned the alt-right movement into a platform of movement. According to Bloomberg, he was also the leader of the breakaway radical wing of the Republicans.

At the same time, Trump headquarters spokesman Jason Miller denied Bennon’s involvement in this racist movement, saying that these allegations are “far from the truth, because Bennon worked with representatives of different sectors of society and embraced all the diversity of American culture throughout his career.”

Breitbart, under the leadership of Bennon, collected about 20 millions of visitors every month, and his head was known for scandalous racist or anti-Semitic headlines, as well as articles against contraception and abortion.

Personal life

The personal life of the adviser to the newly elected president is also quite controversial. In 1996, he stood trial on charges of domestic violence and battery after his now ex-wife claimed he grabbed her by the throat and also injured her arm. The case was dismissed when she failed to show up for a court hearing.

In the 2007 year, during their divorce proceedings, Bennon’s wife accused him of forbidding their daughters to go to school because “they didn’t want them to attend the same school as the Jews.” The political strategist denied the allegations.

Work in the headquarters

As Trump's chief of staff, Bannon organized several controversial public events, including a press conference with women who accused Bill Clinton of harassment and abuse.

According to journalists who worked with him, “Bannon knows what scandal and power are. And his task on Trump’s team will be to maintain and fuel the image of the billionaire as an outsider who speaks the hard truth.”
