Local authorities are now able to more easily check a person's immigration status
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it has updated the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program (SAVE). The program now provides state and local authorities with expanded capabilities to verify a person's immigration status.

The update added a new feature to the program that allows you to enter a person's Social Security number into the system - and their immigration status in the United States will be immediately visible on the screen. In particular, this is necessary to prevent non-citizens from voting in elections, as this two Ukrainian women recently did this and now they are facing prison.
USCIS spokesman Matthew Tragesser noted that states have “been asking for years for a tool to identify and stop non-citizen efforts to interfere with elections.” The updated SAVE, he said, will be that tool.
The updated version of SAVE is a partnership with the Social Security Administration that allows people to check their immigration status using Social Security numbers instead of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identification numbers that were previously used. The old system was ineffective because local governments typically do not ask people for their DHS identification numbers because they are not authorized to do so.

With the upgrade, agencies can now submit multiple requests at once for the first time, making the process faster and more efficient.
The SAVE program, administered by USCIS, provides federal, state, county, tribal, and local agencies with information about an individual's immigration status to determine eligibility for public benefits, licenses, and elections.
